TAMPA -- Catawba College’s Alex Fairweather tossed a complete-game gem as the 17th-ranked Indians defeated No. 13 Tusculum College 5-1 in the winners’ bracket semifinal of the NCAA Division II South Regional Baseball Tournament.  Catawba (42-16), the No. 3 seed in the regional, will face top-seed Tampa at 11 a.m. in Saturday’s winners’ bracket final.  The Pioneers (41-14) will face No. 5 seed Carson-Newman in an elimination game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

HOUSTON, Texas - The Newberry College men's golf team slipped one spot to 19th place following the third round of the 2008 NCAA National Tournament at the par-70, 7,158-yard Memorial Park Golf Course. The Indians shot a 23-over par 303 for a three-day total of 883 (+43).

TAMPA, Fla. - The fifth-seeded Carson-Newman Eagles (42-17) staved off elimination to beat  sixth-seeded Stillman (26-26) 7-5 in game four of the NCAA II Baseball South Regional, sending the Tigers packing and helping the Eagles to match a school record for wins in a single season.
 
Carson-Newman ties the record of 42 wins, set in 1999, the last time the Eagles reached the Division II College World Series.

TAMPA --- Matt Webb’s walk-off single in the ninth inning sparked No. 2 seed Tusculum to an 8-7 win over fifth-seeded Carson-Newman in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Division II South Regional Baseball Tournament Thursday afternoon.  The six-team, double-elimination tournament is being held on the campus of the University of Tampa.
